There are a plethora of insurance and legal counseling groups. Disability Rights is a major law practice in the area and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides you certain rights if you are legally blind.

  • You may be underinsured or eligible for public insurance. Contact a local healthcare counseling program to see how you may qualify.
  • Visit the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services website: cms.gov or call their helpline (800-633-4227). Learn how you may qualify, how to enroll, and different options available.
  • Many local universities have a pro bono law center.

In 2002, your organization came to my preschool for a vision screening, and my parents learned that I had amblyopia. If I had not been screened by the Prevention of Blindness Society, I could have become completely blind in my right eye.
