Guide: Assistive Technology

The level, options, and variety of technology available for people with vision loss has grown exponentially over the past few years. This will continue, especially with continued advancement of “smart” devices (phones, tablets, desktop computers, and smart speakers). Many of the companies listed carry a wide variety of products, electronic devices, and adaptive equipment for people with low vision.

View and try out many of these products at the POB Low Vision Resource Center (POB LVRC) by appointment, or your area Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC).

Low-tech and non-optical options, like talking and large-print materials, writing guides, and audio products are also available at the POB LVRC. You may purchase there or online on the following websites:

Speak with your low vision doctor or specialist before making purchases of magnifiers, low-vision glasses, and other magnification items. POB does not recommend specific technology companies or vendors – many are very good and you, as the consumer, should explore different options before deciding which product is right for you.
