The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington accepts new and gently used, unbroken eyeglasses and sunglasses.

Celebrity Specs®

POB also collects pairs of glasses for Celebrity Specs®, a unique fundraising and awareness initiative featuring eyewear and autographed photos donated by well-known personalities. Many of these items are auctioned at POB’s fundraising events in support of our sight-saving programs.

Donation Guidelines

When deciding what to donate, a good rule of thumb is: “Would your family or friends find this item useful if you passed it on to them?

We accept:

  • Eyeglasses and sunglasses (prescription or non-prescription)
  • Eyeglass cases

Please ensure items are:

  • Clean and free of stains, residue, or debris
  • Functional, with both lenses and frames intact
  • Unbroken and ready for reuse

We are unable to accept contact lenses.

  • Donations may be dropped off 24/7 in the lobby bin.

Community Collection Sites:

Community collection sites may have limited hours or restrictions on accepting eyeglass donations. Please contact the location in advance to confirm drop-off availability and instructions. For large donations (30+ pairs), please contact us, as community collection sites cannot accommodate them.
