POB PARTNERS FOR "MERRIMENT IN GEORGETOWN"
Annual holiday shopping and family event to feature American Girl author Valerie Tripp, kids rock band Milkshake, and special sales and discounts at Georgetown's unique shops and restaurants
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is partnering with Georgetown BID for the 2nd Annual Merriment in Georgetown to usher in the holiday season for residents and visitors alike with special sales and events, seasonal activities, live entertainment, children's activities, and culinary treats on Sunday, December 6 from 3 - 6 p.m. Set within the heart of historic Georgetown at the fabled intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, this annual holiday celebration will showcase the neighborhood's fashionable boutiques, specialty stores and popular restaurants.
Evoking the true spirit of the season, the Georgetown community will come alive with Santa's arrival on a horse-drawn carriage, traditional and modern holiday performances by community choral groups and a special appearance by acclaimed kids rock band, Milkshake, as seen on NOGGIN and PBS Kids. Throughout the afternoon, guests will enjoy traditional holiday beverages, complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides, and free photos with Santa, among other yuletide activities.
Merriment in Georgetown will welcome award winning children's author, Valerie Tripp, who will be reading and signing books from her popular series for American Girl. Young girls are invited to meet the author and to bring their favorite doll to a special cafe and girls' activity area. The "My Doll and Me" area will include jewelry making and hair braiding for girls and their dolls, and various treats including kid-friendly "tea," compliments of Honest Tea and cupcake decorating with Georgetown Cupcake.
Attendees will also have a chance to enter a raffle to win one of four American Girl dolls with all proceeds benefiting the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB). Additionally, American Girl books will be offered at the event by Georgetown retailer Proper Topper, with 10 percent of all proceeds also benefiting POB. POB will also offer vision screenings and information on outreach programs, including a "Celebrity Specs" display, showcasing eyeglasses from noteworthy personalities and celebrities.
Merriment in Georgetown culminates with a candelight community caroling followed by the 4th Annual Tree Lighting at Washington Harbour and the Annual Boat Parade of Lights. This event is being underwritten by the Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with the Citizens Association of Georgetown (CAG) and Georgetown Business Association (GBA).
