Area Theaters Now Have
Low Vision Accommodations

You used to love the theater but you stopped going when you started having trouble with your vision. The print on the program was too small and you were unable to tell what was happening on stage when no dialogue was present. Now you can enjoy the theater once again! Many theater performances are now accessible to the members of the community who have low vision. Large print programs are offered along with audio described performances. Here is a list of local theaters and the accommodations they are able to provide:

Arena Stage: Large print program at all performances. Audio described performances on select Thursday evenings and Saturday matinees. (202-554-9066, ext. 234)

Ford’s Theater: Large print program available with advance notice. Audio described performances on select Sunday matinees and Tuesday evenings. (202-638-2941)

Kennedy Center: Large print program available at all performances. Audio described performances at select matinee and evening performances of all theatrical presentations. (202-416-8727)

Olney Theater: Audio described performances on third Thursday of each five week performance. (310-924-4485, ext.105)

Shakespeare Theater: Large print program at all performances. Audio described performances on select Thursday evenings and Saturday matinees during each production. (202-547-3230, ext. 2520)

In addition, the Metropolitan Washington Ear provides transportation to people with low vision who want to attend the audio described performances. Call 301-681-6636 for more information.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
