Library Resources for the Visually Impaired
The National Library
Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) offers a free national library
program of Braille and recorded materials. NLS, a service of the Library of Congress, selects and
produces full-length books and magazines in Braille and on recorded disc and
cassette.
Reading materials and
playback machines are sent to eligible borrowers and returned to local
libraries by postage-free mail.
Anyone who is unable to read or use standard printed materials as a
result of temporary or permanent visual or physical limitations may receive service.
In addition to the books
and magazines available through The National Library Service for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped (NLS), you can also borrow special music materials. Materials include large-print and
Braille books about music; large-print music scores; music appreciation
cassettes; and instructional cassettes for piano, organ, guitar, and other
instruments.
