POB Awards Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Grant WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 6, 2009) – The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington® (POB) today announced that it has awarded its Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Grant to Wai T. Wong, M.D., Ph.D., National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health for “Mechanism and Treatment of Retinal Hemorrhages in Exudative Age-Related Macular Degeneration.”

American Girl Fashion Show to Benefit Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 29, 2008) - The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington® (POB) invites girls and their friends and families to experience the American Girl Fashion Show® November 15-16 at the Inn at Brookeville Farms in Brookeville, Md. This new and unique program to the metropolitan area showcases historical and contemporary fashions for girls and their dolls. Proceeds from the event will benefit POB.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration: World-Class Panel Discusses Current and Future Research Initiatives More than 250 community members attended the Age-Related Macular Degeneration Town Meeting on March 2 at Sibley Memorial Hospital. Moderated by Emily Chew, M.D., the meeting addressed past therapy, current treatments, future research, low vision rehabilitation and patient perspectives.

Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington Announces New Partnership with DPR The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) has announced a new partnership with the Washington, D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). From April 1 to May 1, 2008, POB will provide free vision screenings for children enrolled at all DPR Day Care and Cooperative Play Centers. The results of the vision tests will be given to the families of all children screened.
