CHILDREN’S VISION SCREENING
Each year the Society
screens over 7,500 young children in hundreds of preschools throughout the
metropolitan area. Screening youth for
developmental eye problems at a young age can sometimes result in early
detection and treatment that could prevent or slow vision loss.
Preschool screening
includes tests for distance acuity, amblyopia (lazy eye), and muscle imbalance.
Parents of children with potential eye
problems are encouraged to have their child evaluated by an eye care
specialist. Prevention of Blindness
Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) staff follows up with referrals so
that early treatment can begin when needed.
Local preschools wishing to have POB’s preschool vision staff visit to perform screening, should contact the main office of the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington.
